Jo's Story - Tipped Uterus, Pain During Intercourse and Endometriosis

Jo is 36 years old, married and has one child. She experienced pain during intercourse and was diagnosed with endometriosis and with collision dyspareunia resulting from a tipped uterus.

Jo experienced pain during sex, and it had gotten worse over a three year period. "It was a sharp, deep pain that I learned to put up with. I really didn't think that I had a choice," Jo said. She was also having a difficult time getting pregnant again and had required fertility treatments before her last pregnancy.

After discussing her problems with her doctor, he performed a pelvic exam and found that she had a tipped uterus. He was also able to reproduce the pain she was experiencing during sex during the exam. He explained that he could reposition her uterus with the UPLIFT procedure and alleviate her pain with sex.

Jo decided to have the UPLIFT procedure, because she was especially interested in alleviating pain during intercourse. The procedure as performed on outpatient basis, and Jo was feeling fine only three days after the surgery. She had only "tiny three quarter inch scars" from the surgery, and her insurance paid for the procedure.

"The pain during sex is totally gone," Jo was happy to report. The cramps with her period also decreased, but she also noted that she hasn't had her period in awhile, because she was pregnant. Jo became pregnant within several months of undergoing the UPLIFT procedure. "I got pregnant without even trying," she said, and she wondered if the UPLIFT procedure helped in that regard.

Jo recommends the procedure, because it alleviates the pain. Before having the UPLIFT procedure, she thought she would just have to "deal with the pain and that's not a very good feeling to have."

Jo was treated by James B. Presthus, MD of OB/GYN West, Minneapolis, MN.
